Persimmon announced as Great Eastern Run sponsor

The community will come together in Peterborough next week for the 2023 Great Eastern Run, supported by Persimmon Homes East Midlands.

The developer has been announced as the latest sponsor of the event, which returns to the streets of the city on Sunday, 15 October.

For the first time ever the route will take in the landmark Peterborough Cathedral as well as residential parts of the city where neighbours line the pavements to cheer on the runners.

The half marathon event, which dates back a number of years, returned in 2022 after a three-year hiatus, and is now organised by Good Running Events. They have seen a bumper number of entries for this year’s 13-mile race as well as the accompanying Anna Hope 5km route.

More charities than ever will benefit from the money raised by runners including Magpas, the area’s air ambulance charity.

As well as sponsoring the running event, Persimmon Homes East Midlands, based in Peterborough, has seen several team members sign up to take part.

Ben Smith, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes East Midlands, is among the team of runners taking on the full 13-mile course and he said: “The Great Eastern Run is a key event in the city’s calendar, it brings the whole community together and raises thousands of pounds for local charities, leaving a lasting legacy each year.

“We are delighted to partner with the organisers and support the work they are doing in growing this event, ensuring the whole community benefits.”

Aaron Murrell, Race Director, said: “This year people know the Great Eastern Run is back and they are keen to be a part of this. We have 3,200 runners already signed up for the half marathon and more than 600 doing the 5km event. It is the race people locally aim for and train for.

“Without the support of our generous sponsors we would not be able to bring this event to the city, and support the many worthy causes that share in the money raised. We would like to thank Persimmon for partnering with us for this exciting event.”

Persimmon Homes East Midlands supports charities and organisations with cash donations through their Community Champions Scheme, awarding grants throughout the year for projects that benefit the areas in which they are building new homes.
